1. The Mechanics of Acoustic Felt V-Grooving

Recycled PET acoustic felt (polyethylene terephthalate) is dense, porous, and non-woven. Rather than milling with rotary endmills (which cause fiber melting and fuzzing), felt is processed using CNC oscillating digital flat knives and angled V-cut blades (Zünd, Kongsberg, Summa, Colex):

Skin Thickness Rule: For 9mm felt, retain 1.0mm skin. For 12mm felt, retain 1.2mm skin. For 24mm felt, retain 1.8mm skin. Calibrate your Z-zero against the cutting underlay mat with a micrometer test strip.
