1. The Mechanics of Acoustic Felt V-Grooving
Recycled PET acoustic felt (polyethylene terephthalate) is dense, porous, and non-woven. Rather than milling with rotary endmills (which cause fiber melting and fuzzing), felt is processed using CNC oscillating digital flat knives and angled V-cut blades (Zünd, Kongsberg, Summa, Colex):
- Hinge Skin Retention: A 45° double-bevel knife plunges to a precise depth leaving 1.0mm to 1.5mm of intact backing felt. This un-cut layer acts as a flexible, indestructible living hinge.
- Origami 3D Folding: The panel can then be folded into hollow triangular baffles, rectangular ceiling clouds, or geometric acoustic wall facets with seamless razor-sharp outer corners.

3. Preventing Vacuum Table Lift & Fiber Drag
- Cut Sequence Ordering: Always execute V-grooves first while the full felt sheet retains maximum suction hold-down. Execute perimeter through-cuts last.
- Overcut Compensation: Digital knife blades have a physical heel and toe length. Enable knife tangential lift and heel compensation at internal corners to prevent corner notch tears.
