DEEP HOLE DRILLING & BTA TOOLING

Deep Hole Gun Drilling & BTA Toolpath Calculator

Calculate high-pressure cutting oil flow rate ($Q$), internal coolant pressure ($P_{\text{bar}}$), spindle RPM, axial feed rate ($V_f$), centerline runout drift, and steady rest spacing for deep hole gun drilling and BTA deep drilling operations.

1. Input Parameters

Single-lip gun drill or BTA drilling head diameter.

Tooling & Vector Prepress Engineering Notes

1. Internal High-Pressure Coolant Hydraulics: Coolant must enter through the kidney-shaped internal channel and exit carrying chips through the V-flute at minimum chip flush velocity $v_{\text{chip}} \ge 8.0\text{ m/s}$. Required pressure scales inversely with hole diameter: $P \propto 1/d^{1.3}$.

2. Guide Bushing Pilot Engagement: Gun drills are self-guiding via carbide wear pads. The starter pilot hole or guide bushing must provide clearance $\le 0.005\text{mm}$ over $1.5–2.0 \times d$ depth.

3. Intersecting Cross-Hole Prepress Rules: When gun drilling intersects cross-drilled hydraulic manifold oil passages, feed rate must reduce by 50% across the intersection DXF boundary to prevent drill wander and tip chipping.
