Investment Tooling & Vector Prepress Notes

1. Torricelli Velocity Principle: Molten metal velocity at the sprue exit is governed by $v = \sqrt{2gH_{\text{eff}}}$. For bronze and aluminum, velocity entering the mold cavity should remain under $0.5 - 0.8\,\text{m/s}$ to prevent turbulent oxide skin entrapment.

2. Gating Ratios: In an unpressurized gating system ($1:2:2$), the choke occurs at the bottom of the sprue, causing the runner and ingates to fill completely before metal enters the part cavity, providing passive slag and dross flotation.
