Why Vector Cut Path Geometry Governs Weeding Speed
When cutting vinyl on a plotter (Graphtec, Roland, Summa, Cricut, Silhouette), the cutting blade swivels dynamically inside its blade holder. If the cut path contains thousands of microscopic jagged nodes from a rough raster trace:
- Blade Swivel Lag: The knife constantly changes direction at micro-steps, leaving partial un-cut fibers (micro-bridges) between nodes.
- Lifting Micro-Corners: When weeding excess vinyl, small negative spaces (like letter counters) stick to the backing liner and pull up the intended lettering.
