Blade Offset Diagnostic Chart (How to Fix Corner Defects)
❌ Offset Too Low (Corners Rounded)
If corners turn before reaching the true apex, the blade offset value is too small. Sharp 90° corners become rounded or fail to cut through completely, causing vinyl tears during weeding.
✓ Correct Offset (Crisp 90° Corners)
The cutter over-travels past the apex by exactly the offset distance, pivots the blade trailing point around the center axis, and pulls back into the next path cleanly without lifting.
❌ Offset Too High (Corner "Dog-Ears")
If corners show outward flared points ("horns" or "dog-ears"), the offset setting is excessively large. Reduce offset in 0.05 mm increments until corners are square.
Drag Knife Blade Angle Specification Matrix
| Blade Angle | Cutting Edge Length | Recommended Materials | Detail Capability |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30° Knife (Yellow) | Shortest (Very steep tip) | Window tint, ultra-thin Mylar, micro-script typography | Ultra-Fine (< 3mm text height) |
| 45° Knife (Standard) | Medium universal taper | Cast vinyl, calendered sign vinyl, standard PU HTV (up to 4 mil) | Standard (5mm - 500mm decals) |
| 60° Knife (Blue/Green) | Long cutting bevel | Glitter HTV, flock, sandblast mask, magnetic sheet, reflective | Heavy Duty / Thick films |
Prepress Vector Rules for Vinyl Plotting
1. Eliminate Duplicate & Overlapping Paths
Vinyl cutters follow every mathematical vector contour in your SVG/DXF. Double lines will cause the blade to cut the exact same slot twice, destroying the backing liner.
2. Tangent Smoothing & Node Optimization
Rough auto-traced raster curves have thousands of jagged nodes, causing the blade holder to stutter and chatter. Clean bezier vectorization produces continuous smooth curves.
3. Automatic Closed Cut Boundaries
All cutting outlines must be fully closed loops with zero open gaps. Unclosed lines prevent clean weeding and require manual X-Acto blade trimming.
